A Note From the Seller:
* This car was built by Ed Machcinski in Michigan, a retired iron worker. The car underwent a total rotisserie restoration (See Pics in Detail Notebook). The lettering on this car is professionally hand painted. Len Richter, the driver of the original Bob Ford Thunderbolt (See Pics) passed away in 2012, and was a very close family friend of Ed. Len won the 1964 AHRA Championship, and helped him with the build of this tribute car. Ed's words: "Len was in my shop at least once a week when the car was built. Len wanted to build an identical car of his original Thunderbolt race car, all the way down to the lettering. Ed decided to change some of the lettering to avoid confusion with the original Thunderbolt, using Hemi Hunter on the trunk lid like Len used on his 1965 Bob Ford Mustang drag car. We also chose a more dependable Ford FE 427 Side Oiler instead of the correct High Riser Center Oiler, and for better drivability 427 Low Riser Heads and Intake setup was used." This car also has a different gold paint than the original car. Len loved this tribute car so much and was so impressed by the quality of the build and workmanship that he signed the dashboard. This car has also impressed the heck out of notable racers such as "Hammer" Mason (Carlisle event), as well as Hubert Platt (see pic of Hubert sitting in the car).
Some people may question why anyone would build a tribute of a car that still exists. This car is not to be confused with the original, but rather a true high-quality tribute to the amazing original, and to Len Richter himself and the history they made together! This tribute car is meticulously maintained and has tremendous torque from the monstrous 427 dual quad carburetor setup. Today, the original Bob Ford / Len Richter car is owned by a gentleman by the name of Dennis Kolodziej, co-founder of the Thunderbolt Owners Association.
